Ride and Race+ Members to Receive $0 Deductible Coverage for Bike-Related Injuries

COLORADO SPRINGS --- USA Cycling, the national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States, today announced a new partnership with Spot, the tech startup offering subscription, on-demand injury insurance that protects everyone from athletes and adventurers to families at home. Spot “On-the-Bike” injury insurance coverage is now included in all USA Cycling Ride and Race+ memberships.Spot covers the actual costs of medical bills up to $25K, with $0 deductible, if members are injured while riding a bike anywhere in the US.

In addition to $25K for medical expenses stemming from bike-related injuries, Race members receive access to local and national clubs, event benefits, and discounts. Race+ members get all the benefits of a Ride membership plus Spot injury insurance while training for or participating in USA Cycling-sanctioned races, including training for cycling events while outside of the US and travel to/from event or training sites.

With Spot, cyclists can focus on their injury and receive the comprehensive treatment they need for a full recovery. USA Cycling National Team members, National Champions, and members are covered by Spot, including Ayesha McGowan.

“We know that, in order to excel, cyclists need focus,” said Bouker Pool, Chief Commercial Officer at USA Cycling. “With an expanded partnership with Spot, we can offer our members. yet another opportunity to get to the finish line with the assurance of peace of mind and safety.”

In March 2021, USA Cycling partnered with Spot to offer a first-of-its-kind “On-the-Bike” insurance plan that covers cyclists enrolled in USA Cycling’s voluntary annual program, as well as cyclists racing in any USA Cycling-sanctioned event. Spot is the first and only company to provide customized “On-the-Bike” injury insurance coverage.

“Including injury coverage for USA Cycling members is exactly the kind of partnership we had had in mind when we created Spot,” said Matt Randall, Co-founder and CEO. “This collaboration allows us to widen our reach and provide even more cyclists with the protection they need to keep riding without fear or the stress of debilitating medical bills.”

Spot coverage allows USA Cycling Ride and Race+ members to receive treatment at any licensed physician, hospital, or urgent care clinic. Once they receive their first bill, they can file a claim through Spot’s website by taking pictures of the bill on their phones, explaining how they were injured, and answering a few other questions.

After quick communications through email and chat (unlike old-school insurance companies that require you to call or send in claims by mail or fax), Spot’s claims team coordinates payment via check to the visitor or their healthcare provider.
